TIAN CHU, translated as "Celestial Chef" in English, first opened in 1983 as a small family restaurant in Changchun, the capital of the Jilin Province in China. A Korean restaurant with a Chinese name, it represented a fusion of the two cuisines under the roof -- especially meaningful to the Cui family, who are ethnic Koreans who moved to China and raised their family there. TIAN CHU reopened in Budapest, Hungary in 1993 when the Cui family moved. There, business expanded to a grand total of five restaurants. In 2001, Lin Cui moved to the United States and in 2010 TIAN CHU reopened its doors in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with Lin's mother, Chef Cui at the helm.Chef Cui is an seasoned chef with 30 years of experience in the kitchens under her apron strings with both the Korean and Chinese cuisines. Still, she strives to improve herself constantly, spending nine months in Korea under the instruction of a traditional Korean chef in Seoul, Korea. Her motto is a wise Chinese idiom "活到老,学到老", which means that one keeps learning as one gets older - lifelong learning. Even at TIAN CHU, she constantly makes adjustments to her dishes according to customer preferences so that every one can have one of the best dining experiences. One can enjoy handcrafted, juicy dumplings or a scrumptious seafood pancake stuffed with ingredients, tender and fragrant Korean style barbecued ribs or stir-fried Bulgolgi marinated in Chef Cui's secret sauce, traditional Al Jiggae (fish egg soup) and Sundubu Jiggae (tofu stew), sizzling hot samgyupsal bokuem (spicy pork belly) and what customers have praised as the best Bibimbap in town at TIAN CHU.TIAN CHU's other chef hails from Sichuan, with a similar veteran status in the industry. With his expertise, one can enjoy authentic Sichuan dishes like Cold Spicy Beef, Water-boiled fish, Spicy Cold Chicken, Chong Qing Spicy Chicken, Double-cooked porked belly and Sichuan style Mapo Tofu, all destined to stimulate your taste buds to keep coming back for more. With two experienced chefs under one roof and a long menu filled with Korean and Sichuan dishes, as long as you can think of it, TIAN CHU will make it. TIAN CHU not just only serves Korean and Sichuan cuisines under the same roof, but also authentic Cantonese dimsum treats like Shrimp Chive Cakes, Steamed Taro paste buns, Sesame Seed Balls all day long, and complemented with the popular Taiwanese dessert drink, Bubble Milk Tea.To cater to busy students and working individuals looking for quick and affordable lunch options, TIAN CHU has an extensive list of lunch specials. Lunch bentos are served as well balanced meals with kimbap (korean sushi) and vegetable sides. New additions to the lunch specials that are rapidly gaining popularity are Curry Chicken or Beef, Honey BBQ Pork, Taiwanese-style Minced Pork, all served over white rice.Besides aiming to serve the most delicious food, TIAN CHU is also conscious of the recent health trends of low fat and oil, to serve balanced dishes at affordable prices. Dine-in service is accompanied with soup (for non-soup based entrees) and Korean side dishes for all main entrees. We hope to see you at TIAN CHU!
